17-02-2008, 09:23 PM
It is with regret that I confirm I will not be taking part in this event. I have a new job in London which I start on April 1 (Yeah yeah April fools's day). The next tournament will also, most probably be my last in scottish snooker for the forseeable future as I don't think I'll be able to make the national.
Still my loss is somebody else's gain and hopefully next man on the rankings will be able to grab the opportunity with both hands. I wish all teams and players well for the tournament.
I'd just like to say that I've some tremendous times through snooker and I've met a lot of top-drawer people, I wish all of scottish snooker well for the future and I hope one day I will be back.
I luv you all!!!!!

Sorry to say I won't be able to make this. Canna believe it. First time an event like this in Scotland for aboot 8 years and i'll no be able to play.
Will still be doin ma teacher training placements and if I take a week off i'll hav a nervous breakdown tryin to catch up (i'm not exaggerating).

Baillie, Stevie
19-02-2008, 09:31 PM
Claire, Paul and Ian, that's you 3 confirmed in Red.
Thanks
Callum - Sorry you can't make it bud, especially when in home soil.
As they say - One man's loss is another man's gain - and all that.......
Richy - Sorry mate, but the closing date for entries is Sunday the 24th of Feb. We need to submit ALL entries to the European Committee on Monday 25th.
It's not a Board decision - it's all down to closing dates and restrictions.
We also need to confirm all the players with stats and pictures to the printers next week.
Would love to see you making it, as it would obviously be very beneficial that we line up with the strongest possible teams.
Which your inclusion would most certainly ensure.
Have a wee think and see how your feeling about committing to it. But need your decision by Sunday.
It's just the circumstances of the organising of the event.
I'm sure you can see the problems and the reason why we need confirmed entries.
Hear from you soon.
Cheers.
Baillie, Stevie
19-02-2008, 10:19 PM
It's even more complicated because your late omission would have a knock on effect over the other 3 teams and makes draws and programme printing a nightmare for all concerned.
I can't speak for all the other countries, all I know is that Scotland will be running the event under the EBSA guidelines, rules and Entry closing dates.
Sorry mate, but you have a decision to make.
Not easy I can appreciate, but with 4 International events to organise for Scotland, I'm sure you will yourself appreciate that decision have to be made.
Reilly, AnneMarie
19-02-2008, 11:58 PM

Can you stop the tosh posts mate.
The EUROPEAN BILLIARDS & SNOOKER ASSOCIATION have an entry cut off date for these events.
Unfortunately, for Scottish Snooker Admin and the pursuance of entering our BEST teams - We are all bound by these restrictions.
Would help all round if EVERYONE respectfully acknowledged this - even if they don't agree or if it does not suit them personally.
Cheers
Baillie, Stevie
21-02-2008, 05:55 PM
I personally would love to see you play mate.
So would anyone interested in the furtherance of Scottish Snooker.
But please acknowledge the EBSA have their dates for ALL events they run.
Cheers
Remember "Everything happens for a reason!"
Baillie, Stevie
21-02-2008, 05:56 PM
Ok Mate
Thats you confirmed in Red.

PS Remember positions can and probably will change after Sunday's last 16 in Top 64 Event 6.

What the EBSA, IBSF and any other International Organisation do when players withdraw at the last minute is: Make the best of it and push on with the event for the obvious enjoyment of all others concerned.
Although, they are always well miffed in such circumstances.
Therefore, no NGB would want to get involved in that sort of scenario if it could be helped.
Scottish Snooker currently has excellent relationships with the main International Associations - that is why over the last few years, we have been one the countries that they can rely on to provide extra players at the drop of a hat.
I am beginning to get fed up repeating this - But........
This competition has a closing date, it's a simple call - A player either enters or does not.
Obviously with Richy's situation, would it not be more sensible to go seek a doctors advice and experience on his recovery period, cross reference it with the date of the tournament and then sensibly make the decision whether to enter or not?
Rather than continually bleat on about it on here.
As a reminder to all: ETC Closing Date is Midnight on Sunday 24th February.
I wont be adding any more information to this subject, as it must make for boring reading to others with the continual repetitivness of the situation.
Richy please call or PM with any further enquiries please.
Cheers
Baillie, Stevie
22-02-2008, 01:25 PM
Sorry mate I got lost in all the transcribe.
Rule Is:
Entries need to be in on or before the Tournament Closing Date.
Any country not sending in their entries on the official forms will not participate in the event and reserve players listed from those countries who have sent in on time will be balloted if required to make up numbers.
With it being a team event, I'm sure even you might see that it is even more important that the other 2 team members do not lose out due to only 2 entrants in a 3 man team.
Therefore as Chairman I am sure that you will rest easy that I am looking after the interests of all members fortunate enough to be in a position to committ to an event - thus maintaining Scotlands good relations in these dealings.
It really is quite incredulous that some people do not understand how closing dates work for International Events.
It aint difficult - Just common sense.
Baillie, Stevie
22-02-2008, 02:41 PM
Thanks for your decision - finally.
All countries are asked to nominate Reserve Players.
They are then brought into the event by ballot THE DAY AFTER the closing date if the competition is unsubscribed or some countries fail to enter on time.
No International Association runs tournaments with Reserves somehow hanging on the sidelines. They are in the day after the closing date.
Hope that helps you avoid your misunderstanding.
Richy - I more than most can empathise with your want and frustration, if I were in the same position I would most probably feel the exact same way.
It's a shame that once again I personally bare the brunt of players frustrations, but surely you can see that all I am doing is what is required of me from our NGB's hand-tied position.
I would always want Scotlands current best players representing at all times.
But in this instance and given your own present circumstances, that is unattainable given EBSA Entry closing dates and requirements.
Qadir, Dawud

count me in for the european championship
cheerws for the call stevie
Baillie, Stevie
22-02-2008, 03:00 PM
Thanks for that mate.
I'll bare that in mind for future correspondence and try and learn/improve my conduct/manner when dealing with it.
I honestly dont mean to have a dig at anyone or insinuate any of what you state. Although I can appreciate some would take it that way when I have to continually repeat the same obvious stuff, because it seems to fall on deaf ears (eyes!)
Promise i will try to do better in future. Will you?
Baillie, Stevie
22-02-2008, 03:13 PM
I'm finished - Have the last word - your welcome to it.
Now I can get on with organising the events.

I can see that this thread has only brought confusion to our game.:
Stevie: As Chairman of Scottish Snooker, i believe is only acting according to the rules set out by the governing bodies and can only act upon the rules ( as he has stated in his posts).
Richy: Very comendable bud on how you want to play for SCOTLAND, but can't commit due to health (recovery from major operation).
John: Don't know why you are getting involved, as i remember, this was a discussion between Richy and Stevie (who as Chairman was asked the questions by Richy).
There is no doubt that SCOTLAND would always be a fantastic team with you Richy playing, but the rules state that the team names must be in at the deadline and other players are noted as reserves in case another team/country pulls out, and in your case when you have just had a major op mate, I think your health has to come first, after all 'its just a game of snooker'.
I hope i haven't tread on anyones toes here, but I love the passion from you guys.
Can we try and remember though that this web site is open to the public and potential sponsers and we dont come across as being negative or conflicting, surley thats why we have PM's so we can conduct that sort of things in PRIVATE.
By the way, hope you get better soon Richy.

Unfortunately as much as i would love to compete in this
event i am unable & cant afford to take the time off work.
I hope that whoever takes my place will enjoy
the wealthy experience competing in such a
prestegious event.
I wish all the very best of luck.
Baillie, Stevie
24-02-2008, 11:21 AM
Thanks for your post mate.
Real sorry to see you can't make it Bud, you and I have had some great times playing together and against each other at these sort of Full International events.
You've never given anything less than your best effort when taking part in any of these events, and for that you'll be missed.
Sean, myself and all the rest of the lads will be doing our best for the "Auld Yins".
Although, I just received the Wales Teams entries - It's Darren Morgan and Phil Williams in their Masters Team.
So I will predict at this point that anyone lifting the Masters European Trophy will need to have beaten these two guys.
Just hope me and Sean get a crack at them. I love playing Darren, as you need to be at the top of your game to compete with him.
All the best to you and Nicola Bud.
See you soon.

Hello My Scottish Friends!
Dont know yet where to post this (Stevie will probably move it later) but I wanted to say a big HELLO to you all.
I, unfortunately, wont play in this tourny cos of personal reasons (and others...) but it would have been a pleasure to enter in and come to your wonderful country!
I wish you all a great success, wonderful tourny i'm sure it will be, and victory for a Scottish team!
So, dont know yet where I can talk with friends here but i'll find the clue of it and have a lot of chats, in friendship and snooker.
Think this is a great forum, a scottish forum to talk about snooker, what can i get more than this to talk snooker with friends!!
In fact, talking snooker, playing snooker and more in my country is bored me now so I hope you will welcome me and talk a lot.
So, as Stevie says, Keep your head down and enjoy the game!:D
Thanks Stevie to have invited me here!
My best regards to you all who know me and the others as well.

16-03-2008, 07:04 AM
Thank you Pat!
Hello to Ross! Will have the pleasure of meeting him in the future!
I'll do my best to come back in international!
To be honest, your messages to me (you all), the warm welcome, make me thinking about coming back in international tournies more than playing in my country, for my country, thats becoming more a personal friendship participation than being number 1 in my country and represent it!
I'm thinking about coming to Glasgow for a weekend with family or alone to meet you all again!
Sure i can find a hotel near the venue!
And if I come with family, my son will come too, he is 1 yo now. If he puts a foot on the scottish floor, you will be able to say: "Waouh, i've already met the "World Snooker Champion 2026" when he came with his father in Glasgow! It was in 2008":D
Ok, next time will meet you in Prestatyn for Home International! For France or for Pontins, I dont know yet!

Ross Vallance's parents called today to inform Scottish Snooker that Ross has injured his shoulder playing football today and has to call off from the European Team Cup due to the seriousness of the injury.
I called Richy McDonald to see if he could take up the empty slot?
Richy declined as he did not know if his back would stand up to the week of daily competitive play.
Michael Collumb, next on the list is getting back to me ASAP to see if he can get time off work to take part.
The two men awaiting to see who will join them are Thomas McSorley and Anthony McGill.

Baillie, Stevie
04-04-2008, 12:57 PM
Cheers mate.
It was a fantastic match though, but we lost narrowly 7-6 in a one frame shoot out from 6 all.
They deserved their win after fighting back to force the tie, and some of the safety exchanges where absolutely top drawer, especially from Joe Delaney.
Some of the cute, experienced, knowledgeable shots that he played kept u on the back foot at the nitty, gritty end of the match.
Not pretty to watch but very effective in the situation.
So well played to Brendan & Joe, they will have their work cut out just to stay with Darren Morgan & Phil Williams in the final.
Here's hoping it's a good one!
Good Luck to them all.
PS Just like to say to my playing partner and good mate Sean Boxall, thanks for the effort and great play over the week, just a pity we were edged out by the smallest of margins, but it was a great week and well done mate I thoroughly enjoyed it, hope you did too!
We'll try again another time bud.
Good Luck for The Scottish Snooker Masters National Championship.

Thanks, I really enjoyed the week. Especially our 7-1 win over England! That yellow has been haunting me though, but as you say 'that's snooker'. All the best. Sean

Hey mate you made the decision to try it, if it goes you have the dish sitting there. Bravery mate. I would have done the exact same thing.

Appreciated maestro, just glad it looked smooth to the outside world because it has been a hive of activity in the background.
Hopefully, from what we have learned this week, we should have an even better, smoother running U19 Euro Event next week.
With a Main Tour place at stake The U19 Event should be a belter!
Good Luck to ALL (Scots)
