I have been asked to post the following statement by SportScotland:
It is in the interest of the sport of snooker that Scottish Snooker Limited exists as a strong, robust governing body which demonstrates fairness and transparency at every level of the organisation’s administration.
In accordance with Scottish Snooker Limited’s Articles of Association, sportscotland supports the holding of an Annual General Meeting on the 20th December 2009. One of the main objectives of an AGM is to deal with issues such as the election of committee/board members. The holding of the AGM is the most democratic and legitimate way to ensure that the composition of the Board of Directors reflects the wishes of a majority of the company’s members and also to ensure that the process of appointment of Directors is conducted in an open forum.
We therefore encourage all members to attend the AGM and also remind members that they are expected to carry out their duties in accordance with the agreed policies, procedures and protocols of the Memorandum and Articles of Association.
sportscotland encourages the members of Scottish Snooker Limited to work together “To foster, encourage, promote and develop the Game” as stated in the Memorandum of Association.
We are very grateful for the recent input from SportScotland and the interest they have shown in our sport. Indeed, our relationship with them must now develop in a way previously not seen and, with the correct planning and mutual involvement, we may see the welcome input of resources in due course.
SportScotland have sought advice from their legal consultants. They have confirmed that they agree the process we have and are going through is correct, and support what we are trying to do as the National Governing Body for Snooker in Scotland.
Through their statement and our discussions, they wish to convey to every member that change must be from within and that all members have a duty to be involved in any process of change or adding value to the NGB not simply now, but always.
SportScotland strongly advise all to stick to the rules and support the re-convened AGM.
SportScotland have sent a statement to Mr Paul Marinello and have also confirmed that he does not have their permission for use of their logo, something we were surprised to learn he had engaged in.
Too many players have missed out on the opening ranking events of the season. Too many players have been made false promises and now must come to terms with the damage to their season that has been done chasing the regrettable promises of others.
Both myself and Frank wish to invite all those players to get back involved with the NGB, not just to be part of the re-convened AGM but also to rescue what they can of the remainder of their own season. There is still much to play for and prize money availability has never been at such a high level. Coupling that with the ranking points available, we could have a fantastic end to the season.
I would kindly ask that everyone, players and lovers of the games of snooker and billiards, respect the confirmation from IBSF, EBSA, World Snooker and now SportScotland that there is only one NGB and that we must ALL now put any differences aside and pull together for the benefit of our great sport.
Get involved, nominate and vote for who YOU want to see on YOUR board. Support and help YOUR board whoever may be on it and put Scottish Snooker back on the map where it belongs and for all the right reasons.
