THE BOARD OF SCOTTISH SNOOKER
13-08-2009, 09:03 PM
The Board of Scottish Snooker Ltd

Stevie Baillie, Hugh Brown, Helen Burton, Wullie Craig, Pat Higgins, Crawford Mitchell and Anne-Marie Reilly have all resigned their position from the Board of Scottish Snooker Ltd (SSL).

Alec Cameron and Frank Hamilton will remain on the Board in order to facilitate transition of the company direction in accordance with members wishes which will be confirmed in due course.

SSL have received a request ‘demanding’ of copy of the membership details, (names and addresses etc) citing the reason as wishing to notify the membership of a call for an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM). The call for the EGM did not concur with standard procedure and contained the resolution that 7 members of the Board be replaced with Paul Marinello, Bobby Cruickshanks and Mark Boyle. Mark Boyle has openly stated that he had no desire at all to be on the board however Mr Marinello and his backroom staff continued regardless. The call for EGM contained other dubious factors of which we are sure will unfold to the membership in due course. The group of individuals involved (including the likes of Paul Marinello, Alan Craig, Michael Leslie Snr, Stephen Polley, Thomas McGill), have been witnessed openly saying they will ‘bring down’ SSL regardless of ‘what it takes’. They were fully aware that the Board were more than happy to send out their ‘resolution’ to the entire membership. However, they remain resolute that they want your personal details and have instructed a solicitor in pursuit of those details. This group of individuals have not been vetted by SSL or any other regulatory body and clearly could contain many varying strands of personalities with different agendas for the information. It is headed by Mr Paul Marinello who joined SSL last year with the sole intent of not playing but simply following an agenda of his own. Indeed, this man who wants your personal details has not even provided SSL with his own home address.

As stated openly on previous occasions, the Board are not prepared to hand over your personal details and particularly without your express and explicit consent.

Former Chairman Stevie Baillie had already committed in writing in this years membership pack, that he would never be party to divulging any member’s personal details to any outside parties, especially when there is no need for such action.

Stevie along with the entire Board see this as an issue upon which to resign.

Having sought initial legal advice, we have been told that although we are well within our rights to challenge the disclosure of your personal details to this group and would most likely win through a court hearing procedure, this course would cost upwards of £4,000 – that would be £4,000 of your members money. We are simply not willing to do this and we can only guess what other purposes this group have in mind for your personal details.

It must be made clear that both Alec Cameron and Frank Hamilton share exactly the same concerns as the outgoing Board members above and should not be differentiated from them at all in this respect. Your personal details shall not be handed out to these individuals by either of us.

SSL will be happy to send out an EGM request on any members behalf to all the membership. Why they have requested your specific details can only be left to the imagination.

It appears that anyone paying £25 for a membership (and even without the intention of hitting a ball) and with ANY personal background whatsoever can somehow demand to see all of your details held with SSL unless SSL and its members are prepared to risk a substantial amount of money fighting for what is right through the legal system.

This is a matter the membership must give serious thought to – quite simply a ludicrous position to find ourselves in, and completely avoidable by your Board being happy to send any request to the entire membership without divulging your personal information.

All nine Board members at the last full Board meeting stood resolute together that we would morally and ethically NOT be party to handing over your sensitive details to anyone outside of the duly elected Board Members.

Very shortly another statement shall follow this together with the personal statements of all nine current and outgoing Board members as has been agreed.

We strongly urge ALL members to keep up to date on this site in respect of information and announcements as the future of your NGB will, as always, depend squarely on your considered opinions and democratic vote in the very near future. Do not allow yourselves to be hassled into agreeing to any course of action that is outwith your own personal choice. Simply make your own mind up and use your vote/voice accordingly to ensure that the correct path is chosen for the future of Scottish Snooker.

Stevie Baillie has kindly agreed to continue as Match Secretary for the time being, which will allow for the smooth running of the start of the forthcoming season.

On behalf of our departing Board colleagues, we would like to thank you sincerely for your endorsement at the last AGM and the opportunity to present you with a very full season ahead.

Alec Cameron Interim Chairman and Treasurer
Frank Hamilton Interim Secretary
