Would it make sense to offer a plate tournament for 1st round losers at the qualifiers to get more than 3-5 frames in a day?

Some people don't want to travel cos 3 frames and it could be over for around 15 quid, so maybe a 20-30 quid to the winner to cover his costs for the day and put him/her up a tenner, would entice people to enter and not fear the supremo's in the first round?

This also would work well if "everyone" nerxt year is in the first round would it not.

It also keeps the players there for longer if they wish so the club would also benefit out of it for more tables, and Scottish snooker funds would be larger for the day if they get 30% of table fund.

Thought maybe the format could be best of 3 to final then best of five?

When I played in Leicester at Willie Thorns club, his brother ran this and it was excellent.

Just a thought really, any comments please?

Hi Paul, I go down to Coalville near Leicester for junior tournaments and if you lose in the 1st and 2nd round you get into the plate and if you lose in round 1 of the plate you get back into the plate. That means everyone is guaranteed 3 games which makes it worth your while going to the tournaments. Also i think that this could only help bring in more players.

The plate idea is a good one for people who are just looking to spend their day playing snooker. In the past as most members know, Scottish Snooker used to run plate competitions at all our Junior events. In the beginning it went ok, but after a few months, less and less would participate, citing statements such as..... "It's a long enough day!", "It's too expensive!" What's the point!" "It's just the clubs wanting more money from the players!" or the classic ....."I told my burd I would meet her at 3pm!".

It's the old story of "you can please some of the people, some of the time, but you can't please all of the people all of the time!"

Scottish Snooker are all in favour of anything that gets members playing more quality snooker anywhere, so c'mon folks...any more ideas?
